The beauty of Charyn may be comparable with the Grand Canyon on Colorado, North America. The Charyn Canyon’s length is approximately 200 km and height is from 100 up to 300 m. The bizarre shapes left by erosion and weathering will transport you to a fairyland of fantastical sculptures. The red clay walls of the canyon are carved with deep fissures, forming caves, grottoes and shady niches of different shapes and sizes. They create an impression of huge, ghost city inhabited by fantastic creatures. The earth appears as if it was broken here, opening a deep gorge.
The unique Ashen grove is located in the Charyn river valley. Here grows the ash-tree, a relict tree, which survived through the catastrophic Glacial Period. The Charyn River is perfect for white-water rafting.
